Transcendence Preserved

RSVP

Artist Cheryl Riley explores the similarity between seemingly disparate cultures through the lens of my African American ancestry. Riley examines her family’s plight shaped by the history of racism and sexism and strives to find the intersection between tools for survival and artistic sculpture. She showcases these explorations through various mediums such as public art, installation, murals, sculpture, furniture, wall art and works on paper.

“I incorporate artifacts utilized for gardening, hunting and fishing that are often very sculptural yet utilitarian in my TRANSCENDENCE PRESERVED sculptures. These sculptures represent pride as preservation by enclosing these reminiscent implements in custom vinyl slipcovers, painting them gold where the human hand would touch them, thus transforming them into protected sacred objects of pride and survival.” Cheryl Riley
