Florence Montmare

Florence Montmare is an artist, photographer and director, whose creative drive takes her around the globe. Born in Vienna and raised in Stockholm by Swedish and Greek parents, she graduated with an MBA in Innovation & Design Management in Sweden. Subsequently, she worked for several years as a creative consultant in advertising. Equipped with $200 and a single suitcase she left for New York City, seeking new challenges. Simultaneously she transitioned from the corporate to the fine art world. She traveled South America with only her Nikon F-301, a backpack full of TRI-X, and a diary. Upon her return she worked with international creative agencies and artists. After graduating from the International Center of Photography, New York, and working with fine art projects in Paris, Florence established her studio practice in New York and Stockholm. She makes photographs, films, installations, creative content, campaigns, and television while exhibiting art work at galleries internationally.

Born in Vienna to Swedish and Greek parents and raised in Stockholm, Florence Montmare has an MBA in Design Management from Linnaeus University, Sweden and studied at the School of Visual Arts. A graduate of International Center of Photography, New York, she collaborated with artist Sam Samore from 2001 to 2004, resulting in photographs, films, books, exhibitions, installations and performances internationally. Examples of projects include the feature film Mirror of Happiness, exhibitions at the Centre National de Photographie, PS1/MOMA and a perfume installation/performance at the Foundation Cartier. Florence works collaboratively and across disciplines, using a transparent process where experimentation and discussions are central to the work. With a background in dance, music, painting and photography, she makes images, films/videos, writings and has created installations, exhibitions, performances, happenings, salons, TV programs, books and catalogs. Between 2010 and 2012 she was an artist in residence at Chashama and in 2015, 2016 and 2017 at Ingmar Bergman's Estate in Faro, Sweden. Florence currently lives in New York City with her husband Ambrose & dog Pony.
